On the northwest side of the intersection of Xiangzhou Road and Chunguang Street, the tall and brand-new factory area of Dalian Flow Battery Energy Storage Peak Shaving Power Station is particularly eye-catching. Entering the electrolyte storage tank area on the first floor, in a space the size of two football fields as the capacity unit of the power station, 716 positive and negative electrode storage tanks with a height of four or five meters are arranged neatly, and it is impossible to see the head at a glance. The second floor of the workshop is the battery container area, which is the power unit of the power station, which can realize the conversion of electrical energy and chemical energy. There are 358 stack containers corresponding to the electrolyte storage tanks on the first floor. The central control room on the second floor is spacious and bright, and the operating data of various equipment of the power station is displayed on the console and the large screen on the floor. Gong Jiyu, general manager of Dalian Flow Battery Energy Storage Peak Shaving Power Station Co., Ltd., told reporters: “The construction and installation of the energy storage power station has been completed. On May 23, the energy storage power station officially entered the Liaoning power grid. The charging is officially underway, and the single-unit commissioning and system commissioning of the battery are currently underway. According to the plan, the project will complete the commissioning of the entire first phase of the project in August and officially enter the commercial operation stage.”
Dalian Flow Battery Energy Storage Peak Shaving Power Station is the first national-level large-scale chemical energy storage demonstration project approved by the National Energy Administration in April 2016. The total construction scale of the project is 200 MW/800 MWh, and the total investment is approximately 3.8 billion yuan. The first phase of the project covers an area of 24,500 square meters and a construction area of 36,500 square meters. After the project is completed, it will become the world’s largest flow battery energy storage power station. Dalian flow battery energy storage peak-shaving power station adopts the all-vanadium flow battery energy storage technology independently developed in China and has independent intellectual property rights. Fast speed, high energy conversion efficiency, green environmental protection and other advantages.
The energy storage power station can be used as an urbansupply. In the event of a power grid failure, it can provide emergency power supply for about 4 hours to the government, hospitals, emergency departments, communication facilities, rescue facilities, etc. “Black start” power supply to restore power to the entire grid. The main function of the energy storage power station is to realize the consumption of clean energy through peak regulation of the power grid. The electricity in the energy storage power station is released to the power grid, thereby increasing the proportion of clean energy in the entire power grid, and at the same time improving the economy and safety of the operation of thermal power units.
Gong Jiyu said that, driven by this project, the cost of all-vanadium redox flow batteries can be reduced, the technology and system will be further optimized, and projects of different capacities and scale levels can be applied at the commercial level in the power system, which is expected to drive related industries. The chain development reached 50 billion yuan.
