The power station is by far the world’s largest power and largest capacity flow battery energy storage peak-shaving power station, and is expected to be officially put into use in mid-October. Li Xianfeng told the “China Science News” that according to the calculation of the daily per capita electricity consumption of Chinese residents at about 2 kWh, after the power station is put into use, it can meet the electricity demand of 200,000 residents for a day.

The power station is equivalent to the city’s “power bank” and plays the role of “shaving peaks and filling valleys” in the entire power system. When the power consumption of the power grid is low, the battery is charged by using renewable energy such as wind energy and solar energy to generate electricity, and the electrical energy is converted into chemical energy and stored in the battery; when the power consumption of the power grid is high, the chemical energy stored in the battery is converted into electrical energy discharge. In addition, it can also cooperate with conventional thermal power, nuclear power and other energy sources to provide auxiliary services such as peak regulation and frequency regulation for the operation of the power system, and improve the flexibility of the power system.

The total construction scale of the power station is 200 MW/800 MWh. The first phase of the power station will be put into use this time. The scale is 100 MW/400 MWh, and the rated power of the power station is 100,000 kWh/ hour, can store up to 400,000 kWh of electricity.

The power station is based on the all-vanadium redox flow battery energy storage technology developed by Dalian Chemical, using vanadium ions of different valences as active materials, based on the oxidation or reduction reaction of vanadium ions in the positive and negative electrolytes, to realize the energy and chemical energy. mutual conversion, thereby realizing large-scale storage and release of electrical energy. The technology has high safety, good reliability, large output power and energy storage capacity, long life, high cost performance, recyclable electrolyte, and environmental friendliness. It has good application prospects in the field of large-scale energy storage.

The power station is designed and manufactured by Dalian Rongke Energy Storage Technology Development Co., Ltd., and Dalian Constant Current Energy Storage Power Station Co., Ltd. is responsible for construction and operation. The Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics team also signed a user-side flow battery technology license agreement with EcoSourcen, a holding company of Belgian Kold Group, realizing the export of my country’s flow battery energy storage technology to developed countries for the first time.
